One wedding down, 3 To Go

Just got back from New Orleans after a fun filled weekend of wedding and parades extravaganzas but not all was easy in the Big Easy.  I got up Friday with a sore throat and got some cough drops hoping to make it go away.  I got to city and immediately felt this wave of 89 percent humidity, well actually my hair did... Once I got to the hotel, I was informed my room was oversold but I would be given "the rockstar" room, which is on the top floor and has no windows, slighty creepy but by the time I had to go to sleep, the sore throat had grown into a full on blown cold and I simply passed out.  The first day of festivity included a rehersal dinner at a nice cafe where we all met followed by a very late snack in the French Quarter.

I woke up the next morning and day of the wedding completely congested.  I immediately decided to try and conquer this sickness and opted for Dayquil also known as speed which did not even give me the jolt I needed, yes I was in that bad of shape and completely in denial about it.  Nothing was going to stop me from enjoying the wedding!  I immediately started missing my ex because I just wanted someone to support and take care of me in my time of need and just as I was starting to "woo is me" all over myself, I got a call from my friend Jason who was in despair about his current flame's not so nice attitude since they had gotten to the city. I offered to meet up and chat about it while exploring the city.  We sat and had a cafe au lait at the world famous, Cafe Du Monde along with some delish beignets while discussing relationships.  It's much easier to discuss someone's else I swear.  After we chatted it out, I left Jason at his hotel to deal with it all with the few words of advice I gave him and headed back for a well needed nap.  Ran into Ron Artez, Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom from The Lakers who happened to play in town.  You can leave L.A but L.A never leaves you I thought to myself...

I woke up with an hour left prior to getting ready for the wedding, met up with couple staying at the hotel and we all headed to the ceremony.  Short and sweet and followed by a parade down Bourbon Street and the reception which included the following New Orleans tradition: all the single girls gather around the bride before the cake cutting and pull a string with a charm on it, each charm has a meaning... I pulled a steamboat which apparently means I will have a life full of nostalgic memories... Beth, next to me, got the Fleur De lis charm which means she is next to get married... Thanks red velvet cake for my bleak future but because you tasted so good, I forgive you...  I did not catch the bouquet, some 6 feet amazon did, I got a rose instead...

The next day I attended a drag queen easter party with my friend Andy and Todd who have been a couple for 10 years and have a set of 5 months old twins, Sam and Anabelle.   It was nice to hear how they "conceived" in Panama with an american egg donor.  I loved being around the babies and pondered on what could have been had the ex and I had become parents.  Then off course, lil Sam started smelling so I handed him over to Monica the babysitter, so much for that motherly moment.  Drag Queens, beads and more coffee, quite my scene indeed.  I finally made it home today after a 4 hour flight in the middle seat.  Vommited a few times to the delight of the people sitting next to me and somewhat slept.

Feels like this sickness is another manifestation of this past two months of emotional emptyness I have been feeling, I just did not realize how drained I have been and perhaps I finally reached my emotional peak among all this lovey dovey stuff or perhaps I just caught some real nasty bug, who knows... The fact is, I am super sick and need to get better asap.  Glad I went to the wedding and got to share my friend's special day.  Someone told me that back in the days her now husband thought he was too good for her... 15 years down the road he is madly in love with her and thrilled to call her his wife.
There is hope for the hopeless!
